I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Survey Says!...

This is just great. Poll finds majority of Americans believe war in Iraq was a mistake.
President Bush heads into his second term amid deep and growing public skepticism about the Iraq war, with a solid majority saying for the first time that the war was a mistake and most people believing that Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld should lose his job, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Well, that's just lovely. If you don't mind our asking, where were you shining stars of intellectual reason ON NOVEMBER SECOND???!!!???!!

But wait... there's more.
While a slight majority believe the Iraq war contributed to the long-term security of the United States, 70 percent of Americans think these gains have come at an "unacceptable" cost in military casualties. This led 56 percent to conclude that, given the cost, the conflict there was "not worth fighting" -- an eight-point increase from when the same question was asked this summer, and the first time a decisive majority of people have reached this conclusion.
Of all the things to politicize, don't you think that these many troop supporting patriots who defended Bush to the death during the election could have seen their way past this one? I mean, come on. These people didn't just suddenly wake up during the week before Christmas and say, "Hey... wait a minute here. You know, this whole war thing wasn't such a good idea."

Their brains did not suddenly act like the Grinch's heart when he stood looking over Whoville and "grow ten sizes that day."

These people knew all along that the entire Iraq fiasco was a dastardly act by a group of cowards, spending American lives for no damned reason. But in their rush to support anything that Dear Misleader did, they would have claimed that drowning puppies was in the nation's best interest and would protect us from foreign invaders.

If you want to be mindless marionettes and believe the neocon dogma, that's fine. Keep all ten of your remaining brain cells running full tilt on that project. Do not, however, insult the intelligence of the rest of us by suddenly claiming you know that Iraq was a mistake once your boy is elected.

Idiots.
