Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who has pushed for more civility in this year's presidential race, is warning that the biting, angry attack on Sen. John Kerry by a fellow Democrat at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night might harm President Bush's efforts to woo swing voters.Zell Miller's speech did exactly what the master of slime, Karl Rove, wanted it to do, it energized the kool-aide bunch. McCains empty words are just part of phase II, the Republicans trying to distance themselves from the hateful Miller in an attempt to convince the moderates that the party really isn't like that. McCain once again shows he is Karl's new toy.
McCain said the keynote address by Sen. Zell Miller (D-Ga.) could prove as controversial as a speech by Patrick Buchanan at the 1992 GOP convention in Houston.
"I think it backfires," McCain said of Miller's rhetorical assault on Kerry. He added that it "makes Buchanan's speech look milquetoast."
If John McCain had any respect left for himself or other veterans this would have been enough to make him walk out of the convention.
