It is becoming increasingly difficult for the Bush administration to hide their incompetence in Iraq. Even the pliant press is being forced to ask questions and admit that all is not well. Most of the country is controlled by "insurgents". Anyone associated with the puppet government is a target.
Attacks on Iraqi security forces and police officers have killed hundreds of people in the 17 months since insurgents began their campaign to expel U.S.-led forces. Two more National Guardsman from Oregon have been killed this week bringing the total Oregon Guardsman killed to 31.
From April 2003 to May 2004, 710 Iraqi police were killed out of a total force of 130,000 officers, authorities said. Since May, at least an additional 180 people have been killed in attacks targeting police facilities. Insurgents have also kept up a steady drumbeat of smaller scale attacks on police checkpoints and police officials.
Interior Ministry spokesman Sabah Kadhim acknowledged that authorities were finding it increasingly difficult to find safe places to train recruits.
The administration continues to put on a happy face as the possibility of a complete collapse in Iraq becomes likely before the November election. It is also becoming obvious that incompetence on the part of the Bush administration is responsible for the situation. Mary at The Left Coaster has a good rundown of Bush administration lies and mistakes. None of the "real" reasons for invading Iraq are happening. Sabotage of oil pipelines appears to be unstoppable, so no oil. It is increasingly likely that the U.S. will have to make a complete exit sooner than later so no permanent bases. The "Bold" action designed by Rove to insure Bush's re-election may have the opposite effect. Thousands have died in a war based on lies and no one, including Bush and the neo-cons will get what they want.
