The forces of totalitarianism have not gone away; they are just not expressing themselves any longer through nations seeking empire. The forces of tyranny now are international and much more subtle, taking advantage of our dependence on technology and credit and a desire for convenience. Out of fear, they seek to centralize all technological growth into the hands of a few, so that their economic positions can be safeguarded and the future evolution of the world controlled. This is very true and explains, at least some of the resistance to alternative energy sources like solar and wind, they could be decentralized. We see the small government Republicans instituting the Homeland Security act which centralizes domestic intelligence. There are many more examples but you get the idea.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

The fear of decentalization
A few years ago when going through a personnel crisis I decided that perhaps spirituality was missing from this old scientist and engineers life. I went exploring and studied many spiritual paths, western, eastern and some from who knows where. Although I remained an atheist, at least in the Abramhic god created in the image of man sense, I did find wisdom . Buddha seemed to make the most sense although the words of Jesus were also full of wisdom. I read James Redfield’s Celestine Prophecy trilogy and though I found the premise silly there were elements that made sense. In the third book, The Secret of Shambhala, a Tibetan Lama is discussing the meaning of life with the main character of the book and does a very good job of discussing the threat facing mankind today.
