Beyond Red and Blue

Thanks to ark at underzealous for reminding me of Beyond Red and Blue. It divides the US into 10 regions instead of the red and blue model the simplistic pundits like.

"Painting America in just two colors makes US politics seem too black-and-white. In reality, the national electorate divides into 10 regions that cut across state borders. How they come together will determine the presidential election."

Of course international events, national issues and Bush himself have changed some of the assumptions in the months since this was published. It remains a valuable analysis tool, however.
