I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Giant Sunspot #652
Pictures from SpaceWeather.com
Magnetic fields above giant sunspot 652 erupted on July 22nd. The explosion hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) into space. Although it is not heading directly toward Earth, the CME might deliver a glancing blow to our planet's magnetic field on July 23rd or 24th. A night light show may be seen in northern Europe, Canada and northern-tier US states like Wisconsin, Minnesota and Washington.
At the Blue Mounds State Park in Wisconsin, Greg Selleck saw these purple auroras at sunset on July 22nd.
