I put Middle Earth Journal in hiatus in May of 2008 and moved to Newshoggers.
I temporarily reopened Middle Earth Journal when Newshoggers shut it's doors but I was invited to Participate at The Moderate Voice so Middle Earth Journal is once again in hiatus.

Update

Mom and I on my second  birthday - 1948
A couple of days ago I shared what is going on in my life with my mother.  My sister has been here for a few days to help me out but she must return to her life in Houston.  We have arranged for a nurse to come in and give me a hand for 4 or 5 hours a day.  It will keep mom out of a nursing home  and perhaps keep me sane.  At the same time time I realize that my family is fortunate to be able to afford this luxury.

  1. Thank you for the update, Ron. I'm sure I speak for others when I say every time we see your picture or name we think about you, your sister and your mother. It's good to hear you are willing and able to have outside help. As a paid (non-medical) care-giver I have seen too many situations where individuals and/or family members will not, allow that to happen.

Another alternative to hospital, home or nursing home, which may or may not be available where you live, is residential hospice. I have been in a couple here which rival resorts for space, privacy and comfort, not only for the client but family and friends as well. I'm not informed about costs but judging from the amenities in one of the places I saw it has to be very pricey.
